The Cultural Center of Vela Luka

The cultural centre of Vela Luka is a home to a museum, library, traditional music house, radio station and art gallery. The building, located close to the parish Church of St. Joseph in the heart of the town, has been built in a typical Mediterranean style during the second half of the 19th century for school needs. Together, they create an outstanding architectural and urban site. 

-DONATED INERNATIONAL COLLECTION OF DROWINGS, GRAPHICS AND SCULPTURES:
Vela Luka was a host to the international artist’s meetings in1968, 1970, and 1972.Then in 1978. There was a flood that caused severe damage to the museum and artists from all over the world donated some of their works to the town. So now there are 2 Henry Moore’s sculptures, works from other famous artists such are Soto, Hayer. Lindstrom, Erro, Messagier and also works from our best Croatian artists like Murtic, Krsinić, Lipovac, Ruzic, Ujevic, Picelj…
 
-WOODEN SHIP COLLECTION: was handcrafted by the late woodcraftsman Nedo Gugić. In an outstanding way, it shows ship from various historical periods. It is interesting combination of reality and ARTIST’S imaginations.

-ARCHEOLOGICAL EXIBITION: With findings from the big cave (Vela Spila) is one of the best collections of ancient findings from Mediterranean area.
 Various concerts, folk dancing, book promotions etc, are presented in the atrium of museum.
